Margaux LeSourd - Voice Piano

Margaux LeSourd

Born in Seattle, Margaux began her musical adventures at age 4 when she joined a local children’s choir, followed shortly thereafter by piano lessons.  She began composing her own songs at age 5 in an effort to avoid learning to read sheet music, but ended up learning it by accident in the process of writing her own compositions on the staff - a technique she uses to assist reluctant readers to this day! Margaux began singing professionally in 2004, performing jazz and bossa nova with her music professors at private events and local clubs. In the spring of 2006, Margaux joined local funk/ jam band Bungalo 6 as lead singer, cutting her teeth on the Richmond music scene while performing alongside some of Richmond’s most talented up and coming musicians.

In 2007, Margaux LeSourd graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Ethnomusicology and has taught private voice and piano lessons in a wide variety of settings since.  At the center of Margaux’s teaching ethos is the commitment to treat each person as a unique individual and meeting each student where they are in the moment. Mindfulness and body awareness are cornerstones of her personal music pedagogy. Her primary goal is to help each student connect with themselves to discover a centered and focused place of joy that they can return to when the need arises.

Margaux returned to Seattle in 2010 to be closer to aging family members, and met her now husband, Tom - an ecologist who she credits as the inspiration for her musical growth in the last decade. In addition to her solo work, Margaux is half of sci-fly hip hop duo The MEM with multi-disciplinary artist Maurice Leoni-Osion. She is a former member of the Bryant Moore Band (led by Bryant Moore of The True Loves), Alice in the River (led by Alice Sandahl of La Luz), Feeds on Majesty (led by Travis Gore of the Seattle Symphony), Soft Starts (led by Joel Harmon of Grand Hallway), and local kid’s music band The Board of Education. Other former collaborators include DJ Harrison, Trey Pollard (Spacebomb Records), Marcus Tenny (Butcher Brown), Reggie Pace (No BS Brass Band), Daniel Clarke (K.D. Lang and the Siss Boom Bang), Sam Reed, and Thorpe Jenson. She is humbled by the immense talent of the musicians she’s had the privilege to work with and is grateful every day for the opportunity to make music her life.
